The Isle of Women is one of the fifteen islands that make up the main Summer Isles archipelago.
Description[]
Before the landing of Nymeria and the Rhoynar, the Isle of Women was referred to by the name of Abulu. The northernmost of the Summer Isles, the island has remained sparsely populated since the Years of Shame, in which slavers ravaged the island, seeking to enslave and sell the Islanders who called Abulu their home. Eventually, those few that remained upon the island opting instead to move south, to Walano, Koj and Omboru, and thus further from the grasp of galleys from Ghiscar, Valyria and the Basilisk Isles. Whilst only the boldest corsairs from Talon and the Isle of Flies to the east dare enter the range of the Goldenheart bows of the Swan Ships patrolling the islands, the Isle of Women is amongst the least populous of the isles.
When Nymeria came to the Summer Isles with her people on their great exile, they were allowed to settle on the Isle of Women, then known as Abulu. It became known as the Isle of Women because of Nymeria’s followers, a large part of whom were women. However, the island was too small and sparse to support such a large population, and Nymeria soon left it with her people. However, several thousand of her followers chose to remain on the Island, and their Rhoynar descendants can be found there to this day.
