There are a few families of noble birth within the Free City of Lorath, most of which claim descent from the original magisters of the city from the time of outpost formation by the Valyrians.

They rule over Lorath as a conclave of Magisters, and three from their number are chosen to serve as the Fisher Prince, Harvest Prince and Prince of the Streets.

Main Families[]

Ennahran[]

Although they started originally as simple whalers hunting the white and grey leviathans of Lorath Bay, the Ennahrans have grown very powerful over the past few centuries, mainly through the actions of Draqar Ennahran, born around half a century after Aegon's failed conquest. He started to rent out his ships to those too poor to purchase or build their own, claiming a share of their profits when they returned. Later, he began to sell insurance to vessels that called at the Port of Lorath, a venture that his descendants have continued to do so to this day, many generations later. Very wealthy by Lorathi standards, the Ennahrans were the proud owners of the Valyrian Steel shortsword Mazemaker before it was stolen from them by the Fisher Prince Mestos Mestir and subsequently vanished.

H'ghar[]

It is said that eight or nine separate family groups claim the title of Head of the H'ghars, and the family is prone to in-fighting, causing many of the younger members of the family to leave the Free City, seeking a life elsewhere. Despite this, H'ghars remain a common choice for the role of Princes and Magisters. Due to their frequency, there are around half a dozen smaller manses spread throughout the city that all show the heraldry of H'ghar at their gates.

Mestir[]

A priestly family, the Mestirs are amongst the few that still keep to the teachings of Boash, although this is a dying trend, even within the family. At present, around half the Mestirs have donned the eyeless hoods of the followers of the cult religion, and are often deeply shunned by those who do not. They own a small manse in the southwestern side of the city, close to the harbour.

Tor'phal[]

Principal amongst the families specialising in the trade of velvet, the Tor'phal family has called Lorath their home for centuries, and own much of the city's land. They live within a manse in the south of the city, its gardens filled with blue winter rose and moonbloom.
