Stygai, also known as the City of the Night, is a ruined city in the mountainous Shadow Lands of eastern Essos. Despite being seemingly in ruins, it remains inhabited, although exactly who by is a mystery to nearly all.
Location and Geography[]
The city lies on the Ash in the Vale of Shadows, a river valley northeast of Asshai.
Stygai, nestled into the mountainside, is supposedly ruined, although there are few that believe that it is simply a glamour intended to hide the city's true nature and the rumours of monsters are purposely spread to keep prying eyes away.
History[]
Stygai is said to be a haunted corpse city. Twisted creatures, such as demons and dragons, are said to live in its vicinity, and even shadowbinders fear the city. Little is known of Stygai outside of the Shadow Lands, bar that its byname comes from the fact it only sees the light of the sun for a brief period of time each day, around noon.
