The First War of Reclamation was the first major war fought between the Kingdom of Winter and the Kingdom of the Iron Throne.
Timeline[]
The Powder Keg[]
Tensions had been on the rise between the Kingdom of the Iron Throne and the Kingdom of the Winter. King Loras I Baratheon had caused a war in the North against Braavos and the Iron Bank. He also began to throttle trade, crippling the Riverlands economy. The final spark to the powder keg came in the form of an Ironborn raiding party. Lead by Lord Aeron Greyjoy, the fleet was returning from conquest and plunder in the Summer Isles. The fleet was scheduled to moor at Gulltown to offload goods before sailing home with timber for fleet production. To do this they would have to pass through the Stepstones. Upon arrival, they were taken as a raiding party and attacked by the Lords of the Stepstones, sworn to House Baratheon. The Iron Fleet took heavy losses and Aeron himself was killed. His young son Harras rallied the fleet into a retreat and arrived at Gulltown.
Word quickly spread of what had transpired to Lord Arryn and King Stark. Eddard I Stark decided to answer violence with violence and ordered the North, Vale, and Iron Fleets to sail for the Stepstones. He ordered the Northern armies amassed at Moat Cailin and ordered Lord Tully to stage at Harrenhal. He wrote King Baratheon and demanded the king answer for his Lord’s crimes.
The Northern fleet sailed for The Stepstones. Captained by Aeron’s young son Harras and Jon Stark, brother of King Eddard. They descended upon the rocks with an army of Reavers and Northern soldiers. The duo was The duo was brutal, ravaging and raping the islands. News of this eventually reached the capital, infuriating Loras. He had received Stark’s letter some weeks before and had ignored it. Now he answered, he offered Stark a single condition. Bend the knee and this will all be forgotten. With this raven flew a hundred other across the kingdom of the Iron Throne. Raise your men and call your banners.
The Battle for the Stepstones[]
Jon Stark and his fleets descended upon The Stepstones in a fury. Their troops ravaged Bloodstone taking the island within a week of landing. They burned, looted, and raped. They took hostages of pseudo-nobles living on the islands. They carted all their goods off the islands and away on ships. For Jon and Harras a final prize was in mind however, as they moved towards the town occupied by the King’s brother. House Baratheon of Bloodstone was the fleeting house, only consisting of The Lord, Courtnay Baratheon and his young son, along with his Lyseni Noble Wife. Jon and Harras lead a raiding party nearly one thousand strong, descending upon the still forming city. Lord Courtnay and his family were slaughtered, his wife raped and his son drowned.
They pushed on, in a brutal island hopping campaign. However, the further they got into the campaign, the more resistance they faced. Soon their blitz slowed to a crawl, as the raiders became bogged down by reinforcements from the Dornish and Redwynes. Every island taken saw scores of casualties to either side as the Iron Throne fought to hold onto their prized islands.
Jon Stark was killed in a brutal battle off the coast of Bloodstone as Iron Throne forces attempted to reclaim the island. By now the war had turned south for both sides on the islands. Pirates began to raid and establish footholds on islands against both North and South. With Jon’s death, Harras ordered his ships to return to the Iron Islands, especially when news of a Westerlands assault on the islands came.
Lord Redwyne and Prince Martell also chose to pull away from the islands as the pirates became pests against the Iron Throne forces and news of a Northern Army pushing on King’s Landing concerned them. The Stepstones infrastructure crumbled as both kingdoms abandoned the isles to pirates and raiders
The Defense of Darry[]
King Loras I called his banners to King’s Landing. He gave command of his armies to himself, Lord Tyrell, and his cousin, Lord Baratheon of Storm’s End. He sent a raven to Lord Lannister, granting himself a special task. He ordered Baratheon to lead his expeditionary forces. Their first target was Maidenpool, resting on the border near the Kingdom of the Iron Throne. Lord Baratheon marched north with some six thousands swords towards House Mooton’s seat.
Lord Mooton himself had pulled back to Harrenhal at the orders of Lord Tully. News soon came that his keep had fallen, and that Lord Baratheon was now moving to capture Saltpans and gain control of the Bay of Crabs. If the bay fell the Iron Throne would control a majority of the Narrow Sea. Lord Tully knew at this point in the war Jon Stark and Harras Greyjoy had sailed for the Stepstones. If the Iron Throne controlled the Narrow Sea it would be the end of the attack on the Stepstones. The Riverlands army was not yet fully gathered, and news of a Tyrell army marching in from the south was also concerning. Ultimately, Lord Tully made the decision: His army would march on Saltpans.
Lord Baratheon’s men would need to march past Harrenhal on the King’s Road so Tully ordered his men to stage a blockade at Darry and keep the Baratheon’s in the South. Meanwhile, he ordered Lord Mallister to gather a second army and meet Tyrell before he could do real damage. Lord Tully then moved to join his men at Darry. They built up defenses on the King’s Road, intending a blockade. Soon enough, Lord Baratheon and his men arrived to find the defenses in his way. He ordered his men to go through it. The first land battle of the War began.
The battle lasted a full day and only drew to a close as the light of the sun faded. As the moon rose so did Baratheon’s army in victory. Lord Tully himself was captured with his brother slain. Lord Piper rallied the soldiers and they retreated North back to Harrenhal. Baratheon laid siege to Darry following his victory, offering Lord Frey of Darry the release of Tully in exchange for Darry’s unconditional surrender. Tully himself ordered Frey to not surrender. Frey chose to follow his Lord’s order. King Baratheon and his forces soon pulled up on Lord Baratheon’s rear. King Baratheon ordered half of Lord Baratheon’s forces to join his own. He intended to march North and crush the Riverlanders for a swift victory.
The Rose and the Eagle[]
Lord Tyrell and nearly ten thousand men began to harry the southern edges of the Riverlands, dipping their toes in the proverbial pond that was the Riverlands. For several days, Tyrell sent raiding parties across the border to pick and plunder at the villages of the Trident. Lord Mallister and an army of nearly six thousand arrived to counter Lord Tyrell’s archaic attacks. They began to establish defenses for the farms and towns that were being attacked. Within a moon, Tyrell’s success rate dropped from near one-hundred percent to five percent. Tyrell ordered the raidings to cease and decided it was time to commit to hardline campaign. His first target was Pinkmaiden, where Mallister was holding his camp.
Mallister had not forgotten to fortify his own lands, however. Pinkmaiden had been turned into a fortress and would take more than just a quick assault to capture. Lord Tyrell began a slow march towards Pinkmaiden, harried all the way he was harried by Mallister’s counter raiding forces. They were too small to do real damage to the army but were enough to slow him down every day, picking off a dozen or so soldiers for every one defender killed along the way. By the time Tyrell reached Pinkmaiden his forces had dwindled from ten thousands to eight thousand two hundred. Mallister, meanwhile, had only lost three hundred men. Pinkmaiden was more than ready for a siege. If Tyrell wanted his prize he would need to claim it. Tyrell began construction of siege equipment in preparation to take the castle. Mallister all the while stayed inside Lord Piper’s castle. His ravens were shot down, isolating him in his keep. After nearly two moons of siege Tyrell was ready to attack.
The Spring Wolves[]
King Stark and his forces were amassing at Moat Cailin. As Stark’s army of eleven thousand formed news began to pour in of the victories awarded to the King of the Iron Throne. King Eddard was furious to find his lords being defeated. He ordered Lord Arryn to march with the men he had assembled, only half of his intended numbers. Tully’s forces were being battered and needed reinforcements. Stark himself relocated his men to the Twins to be closer to the action. When word reached Stark of Mallister’s predicament at Pinkmaiden he elected to march for the castle to liberate the man. His cavalry charged south.
This was only a portion of the forces, and King Stark tasked Lord Dustin with the other portion to march for Harrenhal and regroup with Lord Piper, who had become the de facto leader of the Riverlanders. Lord Arryn, meanwhile, departed the Bloody Gates with only six thousand men, half of what he had called for. He left ordered his brother to follow suit with the remaining forces when they were ready. He marched to defend Saltpans.
King Baratheon marched up the King’s road with the intent of taking Saltpans. Lord Piper knew this, but his soldiers needed time to lick their wounds. King Baratheon marched on his prize. At the same time, Lord Arryn approached. They met not far from Saltpans. Lord Arryn was outmatched, but was able to hold his ground long enough to force King Loras to consider a retreat. His army folded and the battle was a tie, with Lord Arryn retreating to Saltpans and King Baratheon retreating up the road. He took Lord Harroway’s Town and stuck his claim thereir, making it his camp’s centre. News quickly reached him of Stark’s forces parading south, though his information was wrong. He was informed King Stark himself would be amongst the army. He chose to make his move, believing he could end the war then and there.
By now, Lord Piper had learned that King Baratheon had taken Lord Harroway’s Town. He decided to make his move and crush the King of the Iron Throne between himself and Lord Dustin. He ordered most of his remaining forces to march North.
The Sea Lion[]
Lord Lannister had been given a special order directly from the King. He gathered an army at Lannisport. Along with this army, a fleet gathered in his docks. Despite all the news from the war, he remained steadfast with his orders from the crown. Finally after nearly two moons the Lannisfleet sailed to the Iron Islands.
It was dawn one week after departure when alarms sounded out across the Isles. Warships dressed in Lannister gold surged up upon the Iron Islands. The soldiers of the Westerlands arrived in force and the Ironborn were near helpless as Blacktyde, Harlaw, and Great Wyk were sacked. Several towns and villages were set ablaze as the Westerlands. Lord Lannister himself personally seeing the execution of Lords Harlaw, Blacktyde, and Saltcliffe. The West departed the Iron Islands after three weeks, leaving the isles as they often left the Greenlands. Scarred, vulnerable, and traumatized. Word of this reached Winterfell from Lord Greyjoy’s Nuncle. Mallister’s fleet sailed for the Iron Islands a week later with supplies to support the brutalized Isles. Nuncle Greyjoy rallied the surviving Ironborn and combined their fleet with Mallister’s swearing revenge against the West.
Lannister, after months, returned to Lannisport, mooring the fleet. Lannister received word from Tyrell, he had retreated to the Golden Tooth and needed reinforcements. Lannister returned to the Casterly Rock and sent his reavers, fresh from victory, off to slaughter King Stark.
The revenge fleet sailed fast after Lannister, finding the ships mooring at Lannisport after their successful attack. Nuncle Greyjoy and Mallister sacked the city, putting dozens of ships to the torch and hundreds of people to the sword. Several dozen raiding parties were unleashed into the West, with Nuncle Greyjoy declaring Lannisport as his new seat.
Lannister was alarmed by this news, having sent most of his forces to reinforce Tyrell at the Golden Tooth. He ordered half his army to turn and return to defeat the Greyjoys.
The Lion and the Rose[]
Tyrell’s siege equipment was ready and his ordered his men to storm the castle and bring him Mallister’s head. They attacked in the dead of night. Or they would have. Just as Tyrell moved to give the order a horn blast awoke the night. King Stark and his cavalry appeared like ghosts pouring into Tyrell’s camp. Tyrell’s host far outnumbered the attackers but they were not prepared for the sudden ambush. The camp was broken and the forces scattered. Lord Tyrell ordered a retreat, though half his men had already fled.
Mallister and his men harried forth to finish up any stragglers. Tyrell and his forces vanished into the night, heading towards the Golden Tooth. Knowing that Lannister he yet to engage in the ground war, Stark saw fit to pursue Tyrell with Mallister and his hosts combined, hoping to cut off any plans to gain vast reinforcements from the Westerlands.
Tyrell meanwhile sent riders ahead to the Golden Tooth. At this point in the war the Lannister’s still had the bulk of their forces committed to the destruction of the Iron Islands. Lefford had little to offer in terms of reinforcements. Tyrell all the same decided the Golden Tooth was the best option, deciding to reverse the situation and hunker down to hold off the Stark advance.
Defiance of Darry[]
Baratheon of Storm’s End sieged Darry for half a year. Everyday he threatened Lord Tully’s life. Everyday Lord Tully refused to surrender. The men grew complacent, believing that the war was off in the west where King Baratheon and King Stark did battle.
However, they often failed to remember an amassing army far closer than they remembered. Lord Arryn’s brother marched with another six thousand men from the Gates of the Moon. He met with his Lord Arryn at Saltpans. Lord Arryn took an additional two thousand men from his brother to march on Darry whilst he ordered his brother to march south around the siege and head for the Southern Kingdom.
Lord Frey of Darry and his men were whitening away in their keep, quickly running out of food and other supplies. Some had urged their lord to break their siege. Lord Frey refused, holding steadfast to his liege’s orders. If Darry fell then the Iron Throne’s army would control the Kingsroad.
Lord Arryn’s army arrived to Lord Baratheon’s back. However, Lord Baratheon was no fool. His camp had grown lax but not him. He rallied his men and attacked Arryn as they came down upon him. despite a slow start, Baratheon was able to counter Arryn’s forces in the bloodiest battle of the war. In the end, both armies bent and gave. Baratheon found himself without enough men to hold Darry whilst Arryn lost too many men to fight on. Baratheon retreated south back to Maidenpool. Lord Frey of Darry was short on supplies, forcing Arryn to retreat away from the slaughter, haggard. Lord Frey’s men were starving but Saltpans was well supplied. However, the city could not support both armies and Lord Frey’s men would make a quicker recovery. He ordered Lord Frey to move to Saltpans whilst Lord Arryn would endure a long march to Stone Hedge for medical attention for his wounded men. The more able bodied men of Lord Arryn’s and Lord Frey’s stayed to defend Darry. They numbered less than 1500.
Lord Frey of Darry himself moved his emaciated men north to Saltpans on Lord Arryn’s orders. No food and no medical supplies left both groups gaunt. a re-rallied Tyrell army, formed by Lord Vyrwel following the failure at Pinkmaiden, made its way east across the south of the Reach, they came upon Lord Arryn’s army.
Luckily, Lord Arryn’s brother had heard wind of Vyrwel’s force and had been moving to intercept. He came down upon Vyrwel first and slaughtered the army before finding his battered brother and the ruined army of the Vale. Lord Arryn’s brother moved his army to Darry to continue the defense of the King’s road whilst Arryn continued a long march to Stone Hedge. He was welcomed by the Castellan. Many died on the march, but healers staved off further death.
The Golden Kraken[]
Nuncle Greyjoy had taken three daughters of House Lannister of Lannisport for salt wives. Lord Mallister’s son had declared himself the “captain of the guard” of Lannisport and had begun hanging the prisoners off the walls. Raiding parties returned everyday from far off keeps with plunder and gold, loaded onto the ships and returned to the Iron Islands. News came of a large Lannister host turning round and heading towards Lannisport. Nuncle Greyjoy and Mallister’s brother just laughed, declaring they’d drink and whore until the moment the first man was upon their gate, then they’d sail away with every woman willing and unwilling.
Across the West, raiding parties by the Ironborn harried their way through villages, stealing anything and everything they could as the West bled for their crimes against the Iron Islands. Lord Lannister and his forces soon descended upon them from the North in a fury. Unlike Tyrell, Lannister was quite effective at eliminating raiders. Scores of dead ironmen soon lined the trails and woods in and around frequently raided lands in the West as a deterrent to other Ironborn. The raiding parties began to return to Lannisport, first only a few dozen, but soon by the hundreds everyday.
Nuncle and the Son of Lord Mallister were still minimally concerned by this and lead a slow retreat from Lannisport. However, they were not prepared for what came down on them. One night a Lannister raiding party, one consisting of veterans from the Iron Islands assault, crept over the walls of Lannisport to army the prisoners that remained. A full riot erupted in the middle of the streets. Nuncle Greyjoy was killed by his three Lannister Saltwives, gelding him and parading his corpse through the streets. Mallister ordered a heavy retreat, burning down the port of Lannisport as they escaped.
The Battle of the Red Fork[]
King Baratheon had marched North, looking to destroy King Stark and end the war. He did not know Stark was riding hard for Pinkmaiden and was already further south than he expected. Instead, his army came upon Lord Dustin and his men marching from the Twins. King Baratheon ordered an attack all the same, outnumbering Dustin nearly 3-1. At first, the battle look to be entirely in King Baratheon’s favor. However, King Baratheon was taken unaware as Lord Piper and the Riverlands forces emerged from the south and charged at the King of the Iron Throne’s forces. Baratheon ordered a retreat, realizing he had been outflanked.
A timely retreat, along with a sloppy surprise attack from Piper meant most of Baratheon’s forces were spared as they marched west. Piper took command of the army, as Lord Dustin had been killed in the fighting. The injured were to retreat back to the Twins. A portion of the forces under Lord Blackwood would retake Lord Harroway’s Town whilst Lord Piper and Lord Grey of Harrenhal would hunt down King Baratheon.
King Baratheon was informed that King Stark had moved upon Pinkmaiden. He decided instead to allow Lord Tyrell to finish off King Stark. He also received word that Mallister’s remaining forces had sailed to reinforce the Iron Islands. With this, King Baratheon marched to Seagard. The army arrived to the gates of a nearly undefended city, who dipped their banners and opened their gates to the King. Loras immediately had every member of the household put to the sword save any Mallisters proper. He kept these hostages in the dungeon whilst he planned his next move.
The Siege of the Golden Tooth[]
Tyrell held a hard line at the Golden Tooth. Stark and Mallister descended upon him in a made rage. The initial battle saw scores of casualties, but no land gained or lost. Stark and Mallister retreated to a camp not far from the Golden Tooth to rethink their strategy. Initially, news of a Lannister host approaching struck them with fear, but further reports of the Ironborn and Mallister’s own son seizing Lannisport and Lannister turning around reinvigorated Stark and Mallister.
However, Mallister and Stark were misinformed. Lannister had only turned half his army around. After a few more weeks of siege, a Lannister army nearly ten thousands strong appeared to Mallister and Stark. Their camp was overrun. Mallister was killed in the fighting whilst Stark rallied a retreat to Riverrun.
Tyrell, however, had nothing but anger and rage for Lannister, complaining that the man had waited so long to join the war and that his raiding of the Isles would only bring the Ironborn’s wrath. Lannister took this criticism poorly and marched off his men towards Riverrun, telling Tyrell to go home if the war was too much trouble for the man. With that, Lannister continued on with his fresh army to take King Stark, hoping to end the war. Tyrell marched south, not knowing that a refueled and reinvigorated Lord Arryn had marched from Stone Hedge with a few hundred in reinforcements.
The Falcon and the Stag[]
Lord Arryn’s brother continued on for the Kingdom of the Iron Throne after rescuing his brother. His brother told him Baratheon had retreated to Maidenpool. He ordered his men to rush for the keep, intending to take care of the Lord of Storm’s End. He came to Maidenpool to find a bloodied army lead by an exhausted Lord Baratheon. They were in no condition to take on Arryn’s mostly fresh army.
Lord Arryn’s brother ordered his army forward to attack. The battle was terribly onesided, as Baratheon’s forces were barely strong enough to put up a fight back. Lord Arryn’s men stormed over the walls and slaughtered the men. In a last ditch effort, Baratheon set flame upon Maidenpool, turning the entire fight in a chaotic mess. Lord Arryn’s men retreated as the keep castle burned around them. Lord Tully was saved during the fight, bloodied and beaten, but alive. Baratheon retreated to King’s Landing. Lord Arryn’s brother ordered his army to follow.
Frey of Darry’s army recovered after a few weeks of rest and proper nourishment. He rallied his men and marched south again to link up with Lord Erenford, who held Darry in his stead. They decided upon a single goal. Rescue Lord Tully, who was being held in Maidenpool. They marched down the Kingsroad anticipating a battle with Baratheon along the way. However, no such fight came and soon they found Maidenpool completely abandoned, put the torch. No trace of Baratheon. Word reached them that Lord Arryn’s brother was marching south and they chose to move to follow.
The Falcon’s Return[]
Mallister and the Ironborn retreated to Pyke. Once they arrived they got word of King Baratheon’s occupation of Seagard. Mallister’s son flew into a rage and demanded they storm the castle immediately. The Ironborn coyly replied that Mallister’s ancestors built the castle to keep them out, and out it had kept them. Mallister and the Iron Lords squabbled on how to proceed. Finally, Mallister convinced the Ironborn to sail on Seagard with him.
At the same time, Piper and Grey arrived to Seagard’s walls. They began a siege, demanding King Baratheon come out. King Baratheon in turn threatened the lives of the Mallister hostages should Piper and Grey attempt to storm the keep. For a few months the siege went on as King Baratheon began to run out of food. Word reached Piper and Grey that Lord Lannister had chased King Stark back to Riverrun. King Stark needed their forces to liberate himself. Piper and Grey argued on what to do. Finally, Piper decided to break the siege camp in half. Lord Grey would march south to liberate Stark whilst Piper would hold the siege. Grey marched off to liberate their king. Shortly after, Lord Mallister and his men arrived by ship, unaware of the siege and attempted to storm the castle.
Baratheon was alarmed by this and himself was nearly killed in the fighting. However, the chaos of two fronts backfired upon the North as the Ironborn and sieging Riverlands briefly squabbled in a battle, leaving a gap to the North. Baratheon rallied a fast retreat though he lost much of his men in the fight. Piper and Mallister soon came to blows over what had transpired. The Ironborn, feeling their duty was done, retreated to the Islands to prepare any coming attacks. Mallister found half of his family dead and declared he would fight no more, especially once Piper informed him that his father died at the Golden Tooth. Piper rallied what remained of his men but instead marched east for Fairmarket. He sent word to Dustin, whose small army was mostly recovered to march south.
The Siege of Riverrun[]
Stark and his surviving army reached Riverrun, bloodied and broken. Lannister’s siege arrived not too much longer afterwards. Riverrun was ill prepared to endure a siege. Stark’s men began to die at a fast rate. A rider managed to break off for Seagard, where Stark had heard Piper and Lord Grey of Harrenhal were besieging King Baratheon. All the while, Lannister called for Stark’s surrender.
After a few weeks Stark’s forces began urging their King to surrender. However, one night, Lord Grey and his men descended down from the siege and attacked Lannister’s camps. It was a pyrrhic victory. Lannister’s armies broke and retreated, but Lord Grey and his only son were killed in battle, extinguishing his house. Stark had little time to mourn, he took command of the army, but found his Lords unwilling to make another press on the Westerlands after their disastrous first campaign. Instead they wanted to cut the head off the snake and pushed for Stark to head North to face King Baratheon.
The Rose and the Falcon[]
Tyrell’s army marched back to the Reach. Along the way he passed near Stonehedge. The Lord of Highgarden was caught unaware as Lord Arryn and what remained of his men struck and attacked the decimated Reach army from the side. Tyrell rallied his men quickly and a massive battle in the fields near Stonehedge began. Tyrell and Arryn themselves dueled for nearly an hour before finally Lord Tarly subbed in for his Lord. Arryn fought bravely but was finally forced to retreat. Tyrell, already sick of fighting, found no pleasure in pursuing Arryn and instead continued on home.
Arryn’s army was now a fifth its original starting size. His Lords counselled the Falcon to return home, ensuring Lord Arryn that his brother had more than enough men to continue the war effort of Arryn’s behalf. Soon news reach Arryn of all happening to the North. Arryn rallied against his Lords, declaring that the North was close to victory and that he would not break now. He ordered his armies to rest before they march south after Tyrell.
Lannister’s armies that liberated Lannisport regrouped with Lannister after his defeat at Riverrun. Lannister sent the injured and weak home taking only the freshest men as he attempted to decide where to march next. He eventually decided upon the southern Riverlands, as news of Lord Arryn’s forces clash with Tyrell had begun to spread. He decided that the Falcon had proven too difficult to tame and needed to die.
The Stag and the Plowman[]
Lord Baratheon returned his bloodied armies to King’s Landing. He was updated on the status of the Stepstones. He ordered a message be sent to Martell and Redwyne to return immediately, declaring the Stepstones lost. He then ordered the city to prepare for a siege.
Lord Arryns’ brother and his army took the Antlers in a rush. Lord Frey of Darry soon arrived afterwards and their armies held there to rest and prepare for what they expected to be the final push of the war. News came that King Stark was pursuing King Baratheon to Fairmarket. Lord Arryn’ brother declared the war won and ordered his men to march on King’s Landing.
They got not half way there before they came upon an army of Dornish spears and Redwyne blades. Fresh off fighting all across the Stepstones, Prince Martell and his men were more than prepared to slaughter the exhausted Valemen and Riverlanders.
Lord Arryn’s brother foolishly ordered his men forward. The battle lasted for a full day before the Falcon saw his folly and ordered a retreat. Prince Martell and his men chased after Lord Arryn’s brother, reducing the army to near nothing.
The Horse and the Stag[]
King Baratheon and what remained of his forces arrived to Fairmarket. He did not stay long before Lord Dustin and his men descended. However, King Baratheon, fresh off a defeat, was more than ready for a real battle and slaughtered Dustin’s men in the field. He took Lord Dustin hostage and ordered the city prepped for a siege.
Lord Piper arrived next and demanded King Baratheon surrender. Loras instead taunted Lord Piper for fighting his own men and allowing the King to escape at Seagard. King Stark arrived next, declaring that they would storm into Fairmarket and kill the King. King Baratheon was more than ready for this.
The Rally of the Roses/The Flight of the Falcon[]
Lannister arrived to Stonehedge just before Arryn was marching. Lord Arryn was not prepared for a second battle so soon. His men were slaughtered in the field. Finally, the falcon declared a retreat, ordering his men to return home to Vale. Lannister celebrated the victory. He sent men to find Tyrell, who was holding a siege line at Tumbleton. Lannister made his plans clear. Lannister would march for King’s Landing, where news of an imminent attack had begun to spread, whilst Tyrell would rally a cavalry and charge north to save their king. Tyrell agreed and marched a small portion of his best riders north to Stonehedge.
There Lannister once again divided his forces and marched off for King’s Landing. Tyrell with nearly three thousand cavalry men charged north in a made dash. The marched for weeks across the Riverlands.
Arryn and his broken forces retreated to where they started, returning the Saltpans. Lord Arryn faced heavy criticism for his actions. With no support left to be found from his Lords, he broke his army and sent his men home. He himself marched with a few dozens soldiers still willing to fight to Darry, where Lord Tully was recovering. Once there he learned his brother was marching on King’s Landing.
The Recapture of King’s Landing[]
Lord Arryn’s men returned to The Antlers. Martell and his men were not far behind. Lord Arryn’s brother barred the gates and declared they would not fall to Martell until the Prince of Sunspear poured over their gates. Martell did just that.
A moon later, Martell’s siege attack came in the night. Lord Frey of Darry and Lord Erenford were killed. Lord Arryn’s brother was taken prisoner, Prince Martell dubbing him Lord Tully the Second. The prisoners were returned to King’s Landing. By then Lannister had arrived declaring he had come to reinforce Baratheon. Baratheon, holding the city was said to have burst into a laughter as Prince Martell arrived mere minutes later with Lord Arryn’s brother in chains.
Lord Lannister the Late did nothing to save the realm whilst Lord Baratheon praised Prince Martell for his bravery and declared him the savior of King’s Landing. Lord Lannister then pointed out that King Baratheon was still besieged at Fairmarket. Lord Baratheon shrugged it off, declaring the his cousin would get himself out of it, citing the battle of Harroway’s Field and Seagard. Lannister revealed Tyrell’s cavalry charge, to which Baratheon told him this would be the final battle of the war.
The Finale of Fairmarket[]
King Stark and Lord Piper were still preparing for their assault on Fairmarket. It would never come. Lord Tyrell’s cavalry appeared over the hills. Stark and Piper rallied to fight back. They put up a good fight but were fully taken away from the siege.
King Baratheon’s lords suggested King Baratheon sally forth and crush King Stark. However, King Baratheon observed Tyrell was still outnumbered, his cavalry would fail soon and this was not meant to be a win for the Iron Throne. King Loras, instead, took this change to escape, rushing south with his army.
King Stark and Lord Piper managed to gain control over the battle and push back. Lord Tyrell ordered a retreat. King Stark’s forces, nonetheless, were exhausted, after several years of constant war. King Baratheon first retreated to Lord Harroway’s Town, but found it no longer in his control, but under Lord Blackwood. After being chased from there he returned to Darry to find it once again, not under his control. However, for some reason, he chose not to attack. To this day, no Maester can explain why. It is likely he was unaware that both Lord Arryn and Lord Tully were inside and found the castle worthless without any other holdings in the Riverlands.
The King returned all the way to the Antlers, where he was met by Lord Lannister, Lord Baratheon, and Prince Martell. Lord Tyrell’s ragged cavalry retreated back to the Reach where Lord Tyrell broke his army, a tenth the size of what he started with.
King Stark made it to Darry where he was reunited with Lord Tully and Lord Arryn. Harras Greyjoy, whose fleet had returned departed from Saltpans to meet with the other Lords, informing the King his brother, Prince Jon Stark, had passed. Eddard was saddened by this news but declared that is was time for the war to end.
The Peacemaking[]
King Stark, Lord Greyjoy, Lord Arryn, and Lord Tully called a meeting at the ruins of Maidenpool. King Baratheon, Lord Baratheon, Prince Martell, and Lord Lannister attended with Lord Tyrell returning home to Highgarden.
King Stark and King Baratheon both reluctantly agreed that the war had proven fruitless. King Baratheon agreed to return Lord Arryn’s brother and to compensate the Iron Islands for damage if King Stark agreed to more free and open trade with the Kingdom of the Iron Throne and (larger) reparations for the loss of the Stepstones, as well as half the surviving ships of the Northern Flee to replace the ones lost. King Stark would also declare raiding on the Greenlands illegal and that reaving in the Summer Isles would cease. King Stark found the terms lopsided but as he did not have to give up lands or hostages he accepted. There was minimal pushback, as all lords were exhausted.
