The Grey Waste is a vast desert found in far-eastern Essos. Unlike those found elsewhere in the world, reports from those few that have explored around its edge seem to suggest it is a cold desert of ice and dust rather than sand.
History[]
During the Long Night, demons and an army of the undead serving the Lion of Night were said to have come from the Grey Waste.
The God-Emperors of Yi Ti have since defended their borders from raiders out of the Grey Waste via the Five Forts, a series of massive constructions of fused black stone.
People[]
The little that is known of the people that inhabit the Waste are said to be highly nomadic, moving from place to place out of necessity. They clad themselves in the fur and leathers of creatures queer and unknown by the writings and knowledge of most men, and carry spears tipped with points of stone and bone.
The city of K'Dath, claimed to be the first and oldest city in the Known World, is found just south of the Grey Waste.
