The Thousand Islands are an extensive collection of islands in the Shivering Sea off the northern coast of Essos and the forested region of Mossovy.
Ibbenese fishermen have been known to explore the lands, but rarely fish there, for the creatures in the waters of the Thousand Islands are described as oddly misshapen, with a bitter and unpleasant taste.
These isles are sea-girt scatter of bleak and windswept rocks. Some believe they are the remnants of a drowned kingdom whose buildings were submerged by the rising sea thousands of years ago, owing the appearance of sunken temples and statues upon the shores at low tide.
Few mariners land on the islands, due to their inhabitants, who are aggressive towards any who try to land upon them, although fearful of the waters themselves, into which they will not enter, even under threat of death. Some see this consternation as further proof of a great flood of the isles, from which the descendants have learned to fear to wrath of the sea, and its destructive capabilities.
