Valysar is a walled town within the territory of Volantis, and has been ruled over the Triarchy ever since the expansion under the tiger Triarchs.

Much like the nearby settlement of Volon Therys, despite being called a town, it is comparable in size to Westerosi cities like Lannisport or Gulltown.

It is ruled by the Triarchs of Volantis, although every day running of the city is entrusted to the Golryen family, who are given the title Governor.

Layout[]

Built around the Rhoyne as it flows south towards the great delta where it meets the Summer Sea, the largest buildings are found at the waterside, with the density and height of construction decreasing the further from the fast-flowing waters one travels.

Buildings of particular note include:

  • The Timber-Yards - Serving a similar purpose as Volon Therys, Valysar functions as a processing stop upon the journey of Qohorik timber onto the traders that carry it across the Summer Sea, and the city reflects this. One in four buildings at the edge of the river have some connection to the labour, whether it be saw-yards, storage warehouses or the quarters of those whom work within them.
  • The Old Man's Temple - Dedicated to the Old Man of the River, the son of Mother Rhoyne, the oval shaped place of worship is delicately painted to resemble the shelled appearance of the lesser god it reveres. Whilst the more zealous of the city claim the building is in fact made of shell rather than stone, any real inspection of the construction will prove this belief to be false.

Recent History[]

Following the death of Laerys Vaelaros during the period remembered as the Ivory War, the vassal state of Valysar, along with Selhorys and Volon Therys called out for Braavosi blood, as many within the city believed Governor Rhaemar Agnalor's claims it was a Faceless Man at the command of the Sealord Bessaro Nestoris that had assassinated the much loved Triarch.
